Your playlists. Your radio. On the road.

WaveAA is an independent phone app for music, playlists, radio, offline listening and optional Android Auto. The second app, WaveAA Video, is only the experimental parked-video mode.

Latest verified release: aa1.51 · 6 Oct 2026 · Phone + optional Android Auto

Current release provides separate Music and Video EXP apps. Video EXP is experimental and intended only for use while the vehicle is parked. Your car may restrict or disable it.

Two apps, one simple choice

Most people only need Music. Install Video EXP only if you specifically want the experimental parked-video mode. Downloads come directly from the project’s GitHub Releases.

Built for listening, not fiddling

The project contains far more than a basic player. These are the features confirmed in the repository documentation and current release notes.

YouTube playlists

Sign in, use playlists from your YouTube account and arrange which playlists appear in Android Auto without changing the playlists on your account.

Internet Radio 2.0

Search stations, browse favorites, recent stations, countries and genres, with stream failover and an optional live/DVR buffer on supported streams.

Offline listening

Download complete playlists, resume interrupted downloads and play local audio without a network connection.

Trip reserve

Optional smart reserve can prepare recent listening, liked music and recent playlists for weak or missing connectivity.

Mobile player

Background playback, screen-off playlist continuation, audio/subtitle track selection, gestures, sleep timer, zoom and Smart Fit.

SponsorBlock + DeArrow

Mobile UI integration can show SponsorBlock/chapter markers and DeArrow community titles/thumbnails.

Android Auto

Connect WaveAA to Android Auto

Android Auto integration is optional and uses the Music app. The app can open the right settings and verify its media service, but Android requires you to enable protected options yourself.

Install Music

Install WaveAA on the Android phone. Add Video EXP only if you want the separate parked-video experiment.

Open Android Auto settings

In WaveAA open Settings → Android Auto → Open Android Auto settings.

Enable Android Auto developer mode

Tap “Version and permission info” 10 times, then open Android Auto developer settings.

Allow unknown sources

Enable “Unknown sources” in Android Auto developer settings. Only install APKs you trust and use the project’s GitHub Releases.

Add / check

Return to WaveAA, confirm the protected steps and choose “Add / check”.

Reconnect the car

Disconnect and reconnect the phone, or restart Android Auto. Your playlists, radio and offline library can then appear through the media service.

⚠️ Driving safety: audio controls and playlists are the main use case. Video EXP is a separate experimental app for stationary use only. Never watch video while driving.
Radio 2.0

Internet radio that belongs in the car

Radio 2.0 is shared between the phone and Android Auto. Favorites and recently played stations are kept locally, and Android Auto exposes a practical radio tree instead of one giant list.

FavoritesKeep favorite stations locally and access the same set in the car.
RecentUp to 50 recently played stations can be shared between phone and Android Auto.
Countries & genresBrowse filtered categories and search the Radio Browser catalog.
Failover + LIVEOn stream failure the app can try another source for the same station; supported streams can also expose LIVE / LIVE −time.
Offline

Made for patchy mobile coverage

The offline subsystem stores private local audio, supports playlist downloads and can fall back to a saved copy when connectivity disappears in Android Auto.

Offline playlists

Queue whole playlists, pause/resume/retry transfers and continue from partial files using HTTP Range when supported.

Listen & Save

Optional mode can save audio after a chosen amount of real listening time. It is off by default because it uses storage and data.

Android Auto Offline

Browse Recently saved, Offline playlists and Offline favorites. Explicit offline playback never silently falls back to network streaming.

Smart Trip Reserve

Optional planner prepares a practical reserve for trips using recent listening, likes and recent playlists.
