YouTube playlists and music in Android Auto
WaveAA Music is a free, open-source phone player with optional Android Auto audio support. Keep your YouTube playlists, internet radio and offline audio available from the car's media interface.
Phone first. Android Auto when you need it.
Install the Music APK on your Android phone and use it as a regular player. You do not need to own a car or enable Android Auto. If your phone and car support Android Auto, you can optionally expose music, playlists, radio and local audio through the Android Auto media service.
What can you listen to?
- YouTube playlists: sign in where supported, choose playlists to show in Android Auto and reorder their presentation without changing the playlists on your account.
- Internet radio: discover stations by search, genre or country and revisit favorites and recent stations.
- Offline library: use saved audio and playlists where mobile reception is unreliable.
Set up music in the car
- Install WaveAA Music from the project's latest GitHub release.
- Open WaveAA → Settings → Android Auto and launch Android Auto settings.
- Enable Android Auto developer settings and allow trusted unknown sources.
- Return to WaveAA, choose Add / check, then reconnect your phone to the car.
Android requires the protected settings to be enabled by the user. For the exact process, see the installation guide.
Music and video are separate
WaveAA Music focuses on audio. The optional WaveAA Video EXP is a separate experimental application intended solely for a stationary, parked vehicle. Some cars may not allow it at all. Never watch video while driving.
Common questions
Does WaveAA work without Android Auto?
Yes. The Music app also works as a phone player.
Will this work in every vehicle?
No guarantee is possible: Android Auto availability and third-party media app behavior depend on the phone, Android version, car and current platform restrictions.
